Road Work Schedule

September 1, 2009

With the completion of the Back Street bridge replacement project yesterday the road crew will return to normal maintenance projects. They are currently working on Blue Ridge road so please exercise caution while traveling on that road.

July 17, 2009

The tentative road work schedule for the balance of the season is as follows:

July & August - Clean ditches and culverts  and grade surface on Coleman Run and Jacks Hollow roads. Begin (finish?) Back Street bridge replacement.

August & September - Coon & Greenwood Glen roads. Clean ditches and culverts and grade road surface

September - Maple Creek & Troutman Run roads. Clean ditches and culverts and grade road surface.

October 9, 2008

A major re-build project is currently scheduled to begin this coming week on Troutman Run road. If you have an alternate route please use it. Butch will try to make delays minimal but with truck loads of material being applied to the surface delays are almost unavoidable. Our roads held up very well this past season although with the wet Summer some ditch work could not be performed. If you are aware of any sections of road that need attention, please contact us.

July 6 2008

Thanks to the windy and wet weather we have experienced this year no solid work schedule has been followed. The guys have jumped from "fire" to "fire" removing trees, un-pluging culverts and repairing washes from the frequent storms. Our road material, with the exception of the oil for "tar and chipping" are in the stock yard. It has really been too wet to clean ditches as working them under the current conditions would just produce piles of muck.As soon as the weather straightens out normal maintenance will proceed. One good thing about the wet weather, we haven't received one call about road dust.

May 12, 2008

The Spring/Summer road maintenance program will be starting this week, weather permitting. Butch and Oscar will be starting at the base of the Blue Ridge hill in Clarington and progress to the junction of Blue Ridge and State Route 899. Please use caution during this period of maintenance activity.

We recently purchased a loader for use in the storage yard and the loading of the trucks will be much quicker this year as the back hoe will not have to be driven back to the yard to load the trucks. As a result the maintenance program should move along at a quicker pace.

The bridge on Back Street will be clossed for an extended period of time. Please use Belltown Road and Main Street to access the Blue Ridge Road and Cherry Run Road areas.

August 18, 2007

Mowing has now been completed on the Township roads and Ken will be doing some contract work for Barnett Township Jefferson County. Money earned from that work will be placed in the maintenance account for the mower.

The white truck experienced a problem when one of the pins on the bed fell out and several items were damaged. Lancaster  Truck Bodies has agreed to stand behind it's product and will pay for all repairs. A new type of pin will be installed in the bed as part of the repair and should prevent a similar occurence in the future. We will be without the truck for a while though so the planned rehab project on back street will be delayed about two weeks. The material contracts for that job have been awarded and are currently being scheduled for shipment. All roads have received their summer touch up and if anyone is aware of any flaws that may present a problem on the roads please contact us.

August 3, 2007

The road crew is now working on Maple Creek Road. A culvert has been replaced and some ditch and surface work has been accomplished. Work will progress from the Eastern end ( Rt.899) to its juncture with Jacks Hollow Road.  The road surface will be worked, ditches, both side and trace, will be cleaned and the berm will be mowed. Work will probably take at least another week so please leave a little extra time if you are planning to travel on it as delays may be encountered.

Material for the Back Street rehab project will be arriving shortly after August 13th, the day bids are being opened. If the Maple Creek Road  work has been completed and no un-expected emergency work has popped up Back Street work will begin. This work is extensive and a detour via Maple Street and Main Street/Blue Ridge Road will more than likely be encountered during work hours. This is a very short detour and should not result in any additional travel time. It is anticipated that the work will extend for a week and a half . If we are able to replace the bridge this year we will try to tie it in with this work but a time lapse between the street work and the bridge work will probably occur. The street will be closed during the bridge work but no residents or campers will be unable to reach their home/camp as access will be available from both ends of the street.

July 9, 2007

Application of brine, to keep down dust, will begin this week. It  is planned to apply brine on all road surfaces close to residences and cabins where dust has been a problem. Thanks to Ken Clark, who worked with the individuals at the National Fuel Division of Seneca Resources, there will be no charge for applying this material. Originaly the material was to be free but there was a charge of $65.00 an hour for the truck and operator during the application. We hope that this will solve the dust problem for our residents and campers. Millstone Township is currently using the mower but when we do get it back Rick is planning to do some right of way mowing. There are several areas where the brush and weeds have grown up and are interfereing with good vision. If you are aware of any area that should be given priority please call the office.

At the July meeting it was decided to advertise the Red Ford truck and the Temporary Bridge that was removed from Bear Run Road for bids. If you are interested or know someone that is interested in buying one of these items contact Mary at the office for bidding information.

June 9, 2007

Surface material has been placed on Coleman Run Road hill and is scheduled for final grooming on Monday June 11th. Next Coon Road will receive a surface grooming and ditch cleaning then the east end of Jacks Hollow Road and Maple Creek Road are scheduled for work. After that the roads on the eastern side of the township will be receiving attention.

We are attemping to arrange for application of a brine sollution to be applied, in settled areas of the roads, to controll the dust. Other townships in the County have had success with this method and  we are going to "give it a try".

All equipment is currently on-line and the maintenance program is proceeding with good progress.

May 22,2007

Butch and Oscar have finished Cemetary, Troutman Run, Forest Drive and are currently working on the top of Coleman Run road. The Coleman Run hill behind the Lodge will not be worked until we receive our road material and we have been putting off that delivery until the bridge is open - - sort of a catch 22. Next to be worked are Greenwood Glen and West Coon road. Then they will work Maple Creek road back to the east side of the township. Again, if anyone wants any fill dirt, please let us know by calling 752-6231 (the Township Building) or stop and let the fellows know at the job site. The new equipment is making a big difference in the work pace and, at this point, all is going smootly. There are a few wet spots where the ditches cannot be worked at this time but the fellows try to open them up enough to create a good flow and , given time, they will be workable.

May 16, 2007

We finally got a rainy day and the fellows are sweeping anti-skid from the streets. We were waiting for a wet day so that there would not be a dust problem from this operation. We don't own a sweeper but are renting one from our up-river neighbors, Millstone Township. I watched for a while and the job is going smoothly. A speed of 4 miles per hour is maintained to insure that the anti-skid is not thrown all over your yards but there will be a line of gravel at the edge of the pavement. We hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone and thank you for understanding the safety factor involved in removing it from our streets.

May 13, 2007

Butch and Oscar have been cleaning ditches, brushing and repairing "soft spots" on the roads. Last week they broke out the grader and did some surface work with the new blade. The carbide tip blade brings the limestone back up to the surface and the roads that have been worked are in great shape. We are still waiting on an inspection of our proposed work site on back street in relation to our request for grant funding for that project. The bridge on back street has deteriorated to the point that a temporary 3 ton weight limit will be posted. That limit will allow car and pickup traffic but will keep heavy tucks off of it for the time being. No road work involving closing or traffic delays is planned for this comming week..

April 25, 2007

Road work has been a matter of reparing / cleaning those areas most affected over the winter. Front street has been given a much needed surface re-work and yesterday Butch and Oscar began a Spring clean up of Cemetary Road ditches and culverts. Again, if you can use some "fill dirt" please let us know by calling 752-6231 or simply stopping where the fellows are working and inform them. Please realize though that the closest available site to the work area will be the one that is used .

All of the equipment, with the exception of the blue truck which is in the shop for extensive exhaust system work, is currently on line and we anticipate a smooth Spring and Summer work season. We are still waiting for an inspection to determine if our request for grant money assistance for the scheduled work on Back Street will be awarded..

Bids have been received for our anticipated road material needs and they will be opened at our May meeting. Needlest to say we anticipate an increase in prices over last year as the only thing that doesn't increase from year to year is State funding.

As always, if you observe a problem on one of our roads, please contact us and we will attempt to handle it in a timely manner.

March 29, 2007

Butch is beginning to groom the road surfaces with our new grader blades so please use a little caution when traveling on  a road with an active work site. The new blades should enable us to accomplish the surface work in a shorter period and the finished product will be of a higher quality. Again, we thank you for your patience.

March 25, 2007

Road work at the current time consists of the "morning tour" to make sure no trees or branches have fallen into the roadway. The roads are currently too soft to work and until they firm up no work, other than specific requests, will be performed. This period of inactivity will probably last a week or two and then the fellows will be able to commence to repair pot holes, wash outs, etc. A quick review showed that the roads came through the winter pretty well and that no major unexpected problems occured.

March 13,2007

Road work other than call in requests has been put on the back burner for the time being while we wait for the frost to go out of the ground. The fellows still do the morning road tour to ensure that nothing is obstructing the roads and then spend the balance of their time performing equipmentment maintenance and scheduled fluid changes.Recent equipment problems have been electronics on the white truck, hydraulic problems on the blue truck plow and the red truck plow went belly up. The fellows have been able to keep at least two of the trucks on line all winter and I feel the roads have been in good shape for our residents.

The weather has been favorable for the bridge crew and I imagine that the scheduled deck pourng on the 15th or 19th is on schedule.

February 26,2007

With the prediction of rain or rain/snow during the day and freezing temperatures at night, this week will be a challange to both the road crew and our residents and visitors using the roads. We will do our best to provide safe roads but please use caution during this transition period.Butch and Oscar generally "hit the road" between 4 and 5 AM and quit between noon and 1 PM. If you have difficulty later in the day or in the evening please contact one of the Supervisors (numbers listed on "Home Page") and we will try to assist you. Of course if weather conditions warrant, the fellows will be on the roads at all hours of the day.

February 21, 2007

We are in a very difficult period of road conditions. The fellows go out early in the morning and apply anti skid material on the icy road surfaces and as soon as the sun hits the roads the anti skid sinks out of sight and it appears nothing has been done. It is impossisible, and a complete waste of time and material,  to keep anti skid on the suface during the period of transition from ice to slush. Please use caution during this time and hopefully the roads will be bare of snow and ice in a few more days. Again, we will be happy to help you out with road problems that we can control.

There is activity at the bridge again and  work in preparation for concrete application has resumed.

February 16, 2007

Well we no longer have to wonder if winter passed us by this year. Butch and Oscar have been hitting the roads at 3 or 4 AM and trying to have them ready for everyone in the morning. Some roads have been plowed as many as four times in a day and we have had no complaints that they could not be traveled. Most roads have been "plowed back" and the remainder will be done shortly. So far, as far as we know, there has only been one mail box casualty which is a real accomplishment considering the conditions. More snow is forecasted for Saturday and possibly Sunday and we'll do our best to keep it under control.

No work has been done on the bridge for the past several weeks but with the warm up forecasted for late next week we may see some relief and a resumption of  preperation work for concrete pouring.

If you are planning to come to camp this week end be prepared to dig out your driveways.

February 11, 2007

Although we have had little or no additional snow accumulation this week there has been some drifting and Butch and Oscar have taken care of it. Depending on the track of the next expected storm on Monday night through Wednesday we may have more snow on the roads. If you experience difficulty  with road conditions let us know and we will attempt to help you.

February 5, 2007

Road work continues to be plowing and anti-skid application. Butch and Oscar have been starting around 4:30 AM to insure that the roads a cleared for the school buses in the morning.

January 28, 2007

Road work has been restricted to snow removal and anti-skid placement. More snow and cold weather is predicted for this coming week so more of the same is expected. Again, if you experience any problems on our roads please notify us and the problem will be addressed.

January 21, 2007

Butch and Oscar have been busy keeping our roads snow and skid free during this period of snow. Basic road maintenance has been put on a back burner  and equipment maintenance is being performed in the garage. The new heating system is working as expected and the equipment is de-iced between periods on the roads.

We were successful with our bid to Rayne Township on the road roller. They delivered it to us and since then it has been cleaned, serviced, and painted. Butch has also fabricated a pair of wheels to facilitate easy  transportation of the roller to work sites throughout  the Township. We believe we obtained a good piece of equipment for the township and now have the proper finishing equipment for our DSA surface work. Periodic grease, oil changes and filter replacents are being conducted to insure   long equipment life.

December 24, 2006

Work this week will consist of morning road checks and necessary spot repairs/clearing. Snow is predicted by Tuesday and may require plowing. Butch and Oscar will do their best to clear the roads as quickly as possible. If you have a need for Township assistance over the holidays or during "off hours" please phone one of the Supervisor's and they will do their best to help you.

December 20, 2006

Work currently involves road checks in the mornings and shop work in the afternoon. Butch is off with the flu that is going around but should be back in two days. The roads are holding up well and the weather certainly has been anything but Pennsylvainia December weather. All equipment is on line and our road anti-skid products are in great shape due to the lack of snow.

December 4, 2006

Work this week will be general clean up after the 1" of rain and the wind storm on Friday. Butch and Oscar were out Friday night and Saturday morning removing downed trees and  wind blown woods trash from the roads.  Much of the culvert work performed the last two weeks was affected by the wash of leaves in the ditches and this work will need touched up. Overall the roads are holding up well and little surfacing work is needed at this time.

Again, check the current events page for bridge work updates.

November 30, 2006

Road work continues on Cemetery Road. The ditches have been neglected for an extended period and cleaning is taking quite a bit of work. Butch also did some brush and tree cut-back and driving vision is much improved in those areas. With tomorrow's high wind advisory we may have some trees down on the roads. Please use caution and, if downed trees are encountered, let us know as quickly as possible so that they can be removed.

Butch and I took a ride to Home Pa. on Tuesday morning. The Township there has a road roller for sale for which they are accepting bids. We will be Faxing them a bid at our meeting on December 7, 2006. They agreed to wait until 8:00 PM to open the bids as their bid opening is scheduled for December 7th at their monthly meeting.

Check the Current Events page for an up-date on the bridge work.

November 19, 2006

Well, after the 2.8" of rain we received Thursday  and Friday, there isn't much question as to the road schedule this coming week. Butch "put out fires"  by jumping from one place to the other clearing culverts and removing downed trees. The same activity will more than likely monopolize this weeks work schedule. All of the road ditches are full of leaves and culvert approaches need cleaned to ensure adequate flow should we get another downpour. More than likely there will also be a few more trees falling due to the saturation of the ground surface. We will try to keep delays, if any, as short as possible as we know many of our residents and, this week, bear hunters will be travelling our roads. The bridge crew appears to be making good progress and I noticed a full crew was working on Saturday. When I last looked at about 10:00 AM on Saturday only about 1/3 of the railing still remained.

November 13, 2006

Road work this week will consist of pot hole patching, ditch cleaning and possibly some brushing on Maple Creek road. Transfer of Cemetery Road and Belltown Road occurred on October 23rd and we now own and are responsible for them. If there is a problem encountered on these two roads please notify us. We received a one time payment of $56,283.00  from PennDOT for this transfer of ownership. Beginning in April of 2008 we will begin receiving $20,920.00 annually for maintainance of these two roads.

November 4, 2006

Road work this week will consist of pot hole repair and possibly some selective surface smoothing. Our new truck arrived on Thursday and the other two trucks have been prepared for snow removal work. We hope that the winter maintenance work will be performed with no major equipment problems this year and that any ice/snow related inconveniences for our residents and visitors are held to a minimum.

October 30, 2006

Bridge closing

Signs were posted today advising that the bridge will close the week of November 13th.

Township road work this week will begin with clearing debris from the strong winds over the week end. We have received our fundng from PennDOT on the Turn-Back agreement  and ownership of Cemetery Road and Bell Town Road has been transfered to the township. Butch will be working at the curve at the cemetery on Monday so please use caution. Weather permitting, pot hole patching and surface repair will be performed.

October 20, 2006

PLEASE CHECK THE CURRENT EVENTS PAGE FOR BRIDGE UPDATE

ALERT :

The SR 899 bridge which crosses the Clarion River at Clarington will be closed for emergency deck replacement from the middle of November until approximately Memorial Day of 2007.

Deck deterioration was discovered during surface repair work in September and emergency funding has been appropriated for this repair. The bridge is currenly open with  a temporary weight limit of 12 tons.

The two shortest  unofficial detours from/to SR 36 to Clarington are:

1. Turn north on SR 949 at Seigel to the Belltown bridge, cross the river and follow River Road/Belltown Road down river to Clarington.

2. Continue on SR 36 across the Clarion River at Cooksburg and turn right on River Road to SR 899. Turn right to Clarington.

The Official PennDot Detour is:

Follow SR 36 to SR 66. Take SR 66 to Marienville then turn South on SR 899 to Clarington.

PennDot is currently working with both the Seigel Fire Department and Marrienville Fire Department to arrange for First Response responsibilities during this period. Ambulance dispatch  may also  be modified during this period to insure the quickest response time.

This site will be updated as new information is received.

October 20th

Our recent torential rain week may require Butch to jump around to various sites to perform cullvert cleanups and ditch cleaning tasks this week. Continued brush and berm work had been scheduled on Maple Creek road and, depending on time limits, a small portion of this work may be performed.

October 18th

Work for this  week on the Township roads will be brush cutting and spot ditch work. Butch will be berm trimming and brushing on the northern end of Jack's Hollow road and Maple Creek road. The new mower we purchased in partnership with Millcreek ownship in Clarion County has been working well and improved vision and side clearance will be noticible in the future..

The new heating system has been completed and gas service was turned on yesterday. This will allow quick de-icing and snow removal from the plowing equipment during the winter. It will also enable winter equipment maintenance chores to be conducted during weather extremes. Water service has also been added to the garage area which will permit more frequent cleaning of equipment.
